'tiny desk' performance @7.30pm Sat 25 Sept
We were delighted to have a live performance from River Codrington (aka NWRVR).
Having started writing music at the age of 10, River Codrington is a multi-faceted musician (trombonist, composer, pianist and vocalist) who moves effortlessly through genres, performing jazz, pop, classical and folk and everything in-between. Teenage curiosity, identity and climate activism are among the themes interrogated in the music of NWRVR.
“NWRVR is a compost heap of all my experiences - all the things that matter to me. I wanted to make something that translated how I feel on the inside, onto the outside. So that’s what I tried to do. My music is basically about life. And as I only know about life from my own experience of it, it’s just that. People, politics, my head, the earth.” – River Codrington (NWRVR)
The recent single features two new tracks, Hypochondriac and Plastic Bag, the single is the anticipated follow up to NWRVR’s debut EP, The Train is Coming. Frantic strings coupled with powerful vocals on Hypochondriac reveal an ever-evolving craft – sophisticated in a manner far beyond NWRVR’s years. Plastic Bag is further evidence of the young artist’s talent in creating deeply moving compositions. Both tracks were written and recorded earlier this year in London by NWRVR, in collaboration with producer Liam Howe. Liam formed ‘90s cult band Sneaker Pimps and has produced for Lana Del Rey, Ellie Goulding, Marina and the Diamonds, Tom Vek, Jessie Ware, Adele, FKA Twigs among others.
“Gorgeous track... Body Swap from NWRVR” – BBC Radio Introducing Suffolk
“The song itself is a breath-taking piece of beautiful music that has been top of the pile of new music that’s come this way during February. There’s an EP out already called The Train is Coming and there promises to be more releases later in the year. This is fabulous” – Louder Than War
